Japan’s Amagasaki city retrieves a USB flash drive with residents’ information

The city of Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan announced that it had recovered a USB flash drive containing information about 460,000 residents. The city commissioned a company to handle the work of subsidized households affected by the new crown. The employees of this company drank too much after get off work, fell asleep on the road, and woke up to find that the bag containing the USB flash drive was missing. The USB flash drive stores the names, addresses, and dates of birth of all Amagasaki residents, as well as local taxes and benefits paid. The USB flash drive is encrypted with a 13-digit password. The employee who lost the USB drive lodged a report with the police, worked with officers to search where he believed the bag was missing, and eventually recovered both the bag and the USB drive.
