Samsung Electronics started mass production of 3nm chips. Samsung said on Thursday that it has started mass production of 3-nanometer chips on its assembly lines. The chip is the first to use gate-all-around (GAAFET) technology. Samsung said that in the initial production phase, the 3-nanometer process enabled the new chip to increase performance by 23%, reduce power consumption by 45%, and save product size by 16%. The company said it expects performance improvements in the next phase, with further reductions in power consumption and product size. Samsung’s planned second-generation 3nm process 3GAP(lus) reduces power consumption by 50% or improves performance by 30%.
