Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida was a Spanish painter known for his monumental works of portraiture, landscape and socio-historical subjects. However my favorite of his works is quite different, he was inspired by the French Impressionists who painted figures and landscapes in the bright sunshine and sunshine of Spain. Today’s painting is a good example. This painting, painted in Valencia in the summer of 1915, shows a woman holding a naked child wrapped in a white cloth. This thematically simple scene allows Sorolla to devote all her attention to the form of the painting. In the artist’s work, motifs emerging from the water are often seen, as well as the use of white fabrics to experiment with colour and light variations. He made many different versions, inspired by client recognition, but also because the subject offered visual interest, some areas with dazzling light, others filtered through the fabric, on water and wet skin Sparkling, and reflecting color effects on white, Sorolla’s eyes also found blues, yellows, greens and purples.
Wishing you all a peaceful Friday filled with sunshine like this!
