Nikon stops development of SLR cameras

Nikon stopped the development of SLR cameras and focused on mirrorless cameras that introduced artificial intelligence (AI) and image processing technology. Smartphones with high-definition cameras are eating into the camera market, and Nikon will try to keep cameras alive by adding features that smartphones don’t have. Nikon introduced the first SLR camera, the Nikon F, in 1959. The advantage of the SLR camera is that the lens can be replaced according to the object to be photographed and the photographic environment. For more than 60 years, Nikon has accumulated a wide variety of lenses, so it is slow to set foot on the mirrorless camera. With the advancement of mobile phone cameras, Nikon’s camera business is losing money, and it plans to focus its business resources on mirrorless cameras to improve product competitiveness.
