2022 China Hydrogen Energy Industry Strategic Development Report (Report attached)

Development overview

Features: Hydrogen energy is a kind of secondary energy with abundant sources, green and low carbon, and wide application. It is an important part of the future national energy system and is gradually becoming one of the important carriers of global energy transformation and development. Its chemical energy is obtained through hydrogen. The energy generated by the reaction with oxygen does not depend on fossil fuels, and mainly exists in the form of chemical compounds, which has the characteristics of recyclability, zero emission, energy storage, and energy interconnection.

Economic environment: Since February 2022, 131 large-scale hydrogen development projects have been launched worldwide. It is estimated that by 2030, the total investment in the global hydrogen energy field will reach 500 billion US dollars. The World Energy Council estimates that by 2050, hydrogen energy could account for as much as 25% of global final energy consumption.

Policy background: At present, more than 200 hydrogen energy plans and guidelines have been issued in more than 20 provinces across the country. There are more than 300 industrial enterprises above designated size in the entire industry chain, which are concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the Bohai Rim. The hydrogen energy industry presents a trend of cluster development.

Industry situation

Hydrogen production: my country is the largest hydrogen producer in the world, with an annual hydrogen production output of about 33 million tons, of which about 12 million tons meet the industrial hydrogen quality standards. In terms of hydrogen production, domestic hydrogen production is currently dominated by fossil energy hydrogen production and industrial by-product hydrogen, and technologies such as solar hydrogen production and biomass hydrogen production are in the research and demonstration stage.

Storage and transportation: In the hydrogen storage link, the technologies mainly include solid-state hydrogen storage, high-pressure gaseous hydrogen storage, liquid hydrogen storage and organic liquid hydrogen storage. At present, the mature technical solution suitable for large-scale hydrogen energy transportation is mainly pipeline transportation, which is the most economical way. Not only the existing technology is relatively mature, but also has low sensitivity to market prices and will not fluctuate greatly due to market changes. , so it is regarded as an effective way for the large-scale application of hydrogen energy.

Using hydrogen: The transportation sector is at the forefront of hydrogen energy applications. At present, my country is dominated by passenger cars and heavy trucks. The number of vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells in operation exceeds 6,000, accounting for about 12% of the total global operation.

Industry News

News of key enterprises: At present, more than one-third of the central enterprises have deployed the entire industrial chain including hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogenation, and hydrogen consumption, and have achieved a number of technological research and development and demonstration applications.

Industry development trend: In 2050, hydrogen energy will account for more than 10% of my country’s terminal energy system; hydrogen energy enterprises will be strongly supported by the Science and Technology Innovation Board and the Growth Enterprise Market; in the future, the automobile market will be one-third of the world, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles must have one; The hydrogen energy industry will set off a new round of investment boom, and the activity of the secondary market will increase.
