South Korea’s KF-21 fighter jet makes its maiden flight

The KF-21 Boramae, a fourth-generation fighter jet jointly developed by South Korea and Indonesia, made its maiden flight on July 19 (YouTube). The KF-21 is a twin-engine fighter jet using two F414-GE-400K turbofan engines, with a maximum range of 2,900 kilometers and a maximum speed of Mach 1.81. According to the agreement, the Korean government will bear 60% of the research and development costs of KF-21, Indonesia will bear 20%, and the rest will be borne by the research and development company. After the maiden flight is completed, the production of the fighter is planned to start in 2026, with at least 40 delivered by 2028, and the RAF will be equipped with 120 KF-21s in 2032.
