Almost a year ago, we launched WebContainers , our in-browser OS capable of running a full Node .js toolchain. The ability to instantly build the web using the web has resonated with developers, and millions of developers now use StackBlitz every month for instant bug reports, live documentation examples, and more.
While WebContainer is built entirely on web-standardized APIs like WebAssembly and Service Workers, they have so far been limited to running in Chromium-based browsers due to differences in how these APIs work in different browser implementations. This can be solved to some extent in user space, but since WebContainer is one of the most complex applications running in a browser engine, we need to work directly with platform vendors to bring these instant development experiences to all browsers and equipment.
Since joining the Bytecode Alliance a few months ago, we have been working with the Mozilla team to bridge this gap. Today we are happy to share an amazing news:
? Firefox, desktop and mobile now support WebContainers …
