Recently, Ji Feng, the executive research director of SenseTime and a major in the field of computer vision, resigned and joined the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University as an associate professor.
At present, Dai Jifeng’s name has appeared in the list of teachers on the official website of the Department of Electronics of Tsinghua University, and his personal website has also been updated with the latest resume.
Dai Jifeng studied at the Department of Automation of Tsinghua University for his undergraduate degree, and obtained his Ph.D. in the Department of Automation in 2014, under the tutelage of Professor Zhou Jie. During his Ph.D., he visited the UCLA laboratory at the University of California, Los Angeles, and collaborated with Zhu Songchun and Wu Yingnian.
From 2014 to 2019, Jifeng Dai worked as a senior principal research manager in the Visual Computing Group of Microsoft Research Asia, working with Jian Sun. Since then, he has been the Executive Research Director of SenseTime Research Institute.
Jifeng Dai’s research focuses on deep learning for advanced vision. His most famous work is his R-FCN published in NIPS in 2016, with over 5300 citations. There are also Deformable ConvNets published at ICCV 2017 and Visual-Linguistic BERT (VL-BERT) published at ICLR 2020. According to Google Scholar, Dai Jifeng has more than 20,500 citations in total. In addition, Dai Jifeng also serves as a member of the editorial board of IJCV and a senior program committee member of AAAI 2018. He has also served as a reviewer for conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR, and journals such as TPAMI, IJCV, CVIU, TIP, and TMM.
Previously, the news that Dai Jifeng jumped from Microsoft Asia Research to Shangtang Technology has caused heated discussions. According to Ji Feng’s own answer on Zhihu at that time, the reason he left Microsoft Asia Research was “I don’t want to do pure scientific research, but want to try to do business and expand my professional skills”.
