Sina Technology News Beijing time on the evening of August 15th, according to reports, Tesla CEO Elon Musk (Elon Musk) space exploration technology company SpaceX recently said that it welcomes researchers to hack it in a “non-destructive” way. The “Starlink” satellite network. Researchers can get up to $25,000 if they find certain bugs in the service.
Last week, Lennert Wouters, a security researcher at the University of Leuven in Belgium, said he was able to hack into the Starlink network using a $25 home-made device. Waters said at the time that he conducted the test as part of SpaceX’s bug bounty program.
In this regard, SpaceX also praised Waters. “We found this attack to be technically impressive and the first of its kind we are aware of,” SpaceX said in a filing.
At the same time, SpaceX also reassured users that there is no need for users to worry about Waters’ use of self-made circuit boards to attack the “Starlink” network, and it will not directly affect satellites.
SpaceX also said that SpaceX’s own engineers have also been trying to hack the “Starlink” network to improve service and make it more secure. Therefore, SpaceX welcomes a bounty program for security researchers who want to help secure the Starlink network.
“We allow responsible security researchers to conduct their own tests, and we offer monetary rewards when they find and report bugs,” SpaceX said.
According to SpaceX’s bug bounty website, researchers who non-destructively test, report, and find bugs in the “Starlink” network can receive a reward of $100 to $25,000. The site also lists 32 researchers who have reported “significant security issues.” Over the past three months, SpaceX has spent an average of $973 on this.
