Tesla’s Elon Musk earned more than $10 billion last year, making him the highest-paid CEO in the United States, according to a newly released CEO compensation survey, and perhaps the highest surface salary that can be found on the surface. Tesla rival Rivian CEO Robert Scaringe was the runner-up with just $2.3 billion in compensation, while Apple CEO Tim Cook came in third with $853 million.
Musk has been at the top of the list for the fourth year in a row. Much of his salary package is made up of various stock options that have added $78 billion to his personal wealth, believed to be $269 billion.
Musk’s compensation is so huge that the remaining 13 CEOs after Musk of the top 14 highest paid CEOs have a combined compensation of $6.3 billion, or just over half of his.
Rivian CEO Robert Scaringe is far behind Musk, but still has a massive $2.3 billion paycheck last year.
Apple CEO Tim Cook, the head of the world’s most valuable and cash-rich company, earned $853 million last year, while Peter Rawlinson, CEO of another EV startup Lucid Motors, earned $575 million.
In fifth place is Tom Siebel, CEO of software company C3.ai, who earned $343 million last year.
The highest-ranked female CEO, Sue Nabi of global beauty giant Coty, earned $283 million, ranking sixth.
Joe Bae, CEO of private equity giant KKR, will earn $279 million in 2021, ranking seventh; while Tomer Weingarten, CEO of cybersecurity firm SentinelOne, will earn $279 million in 2021. $275 million, placing it eighth on the list.
In ninth place is Palantir Technologies CEO Alex Karp with $264 million, while GitLab CEO Sid Sibrandi ( Sid Sijbrandij) entered the top ten with $263 million in revenue.
The top 10 CEOs’ compensation totaled more than $15 billion. On this list, more than 30 public company executives received more than $100 million in compensation.
