Sony announced that it will increase the price of the PS5 console in some markets, including Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America, and parts of Canada, but not in the United States. According to the price changes announced by Sony, the PS5 digital version/optical drive version of the National Bank of China will increase by 400 yuan, and the new prices will be 3499 yuan/4299 yuan respectively, with a price increase of 12% and 10%.
“We are seeing high global inflation, along with unfavorable currency trends, impacting consumers and putting pressure on many industries,” explained Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “Based on these challenging economic conditions, SIE has made the difficult decision to increase the suggested retail price of the PlayStation 5 in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Asia Pacific (APAC), Latin America (LATAM), and Canada. The new prices are effective immediately, with the exception of the price increase in Japan, which will take effect on September 15. While Sony is raising the price of the PS5, supply remains an issue in many markets. “Our priority remains improving the availability of PS5 so that as many players as possible can experience everything PS5 has to offer and everything that is still to come,” Ryan said.
