According to CNBC, on Friday, local time in the United States, the head of Horizon, the virtual reality (VR) social platform of Facebook parent company Meta Platforms, announced that he is leaving to look for new opportunities. Horizon is the main gateway to Meta’s multibillion-dollar construction of the so-called “Metaverse.”

Meta spokesman Bryan Pope confirmed the departure of Vivek Sharma, the company’s vice president, and said the team he leads will report directly to Metaverse vice president of operations Vishal.・Reporting by Vishal Shah. Sharma declined to give a detailed reason for his departure. He has been with Meta for five years and was previously VP of Product for Facebook Gaming and Facebook Marketplace.

Sharma is responsible for developing durable, immersive virtual environments that users can experience in Meta’s metaverse through VR devices such as Oculus headsets.

While the business associated with the Meta Metaverse is still in its infancy, the goal is to make these virtual worlds the primary platform for brands and third-party developers to reach Meta users. The platforms Sharma’s team created include Horizon Worlds, an extended VR world-building platform, and Horizon Venues, which focuses on virtual events.
