Edvard Munch’s exhibition took place in Prague in 1905, and its influence is evident in this unfinished painting, “The Promenade of the Rieger Gardens.” In the work of the painter Kubista, the spontaneous intuition in Munch’s paintings clashes with the well-thought-out composition and the geometric style of the figures. Using warm colors in the foreground and their complementary colors in the treetops adds a positive punch to the painting. Distressed paths and diagonal lines in perspective provide the dynamism of this painting. The ghostly light adds a dramatic dimension to the image. Thanks to the National Gallery in Prague , we are able to present the works of today.
