The UK launched a six-month pilot of the four-day working system in June, involving thousands of employees at 73 companies. The pilot is based on the 100:80:100 principle: 100% salary, 80% working hours, and employees are committed to maintaining 100% productivity. A survey of companies participating in the pilot, released this week, showed that most reported no decline in productivity, and in some cases even a significant improvement in productivity. Thirty-five of the 41 companies surveyed said they were “likely” or “very likely” to consider continuing the four-day workweek after the pilot; all but two reported no decline or improvement in productivity; six Businesses report a significant increase in productivity. Some executives of the companies participating in the pilot said that the four-day work system allows employees more time to exercise, cook, spend time with their families and cultivate interests, improve happiness, and be more energetic and productive at work.
