The Wall Street Journal’s (WSJ)’s Joanna Stern recently traveled to Michigan to test Apple’s new crash detection feature in the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Ultra. Stern recruited Michael Barabe to run his heavy-duty steel-framed demolition vehicle into two unmanned vehicles — a 2003 Ford Taurus and a 2008 Dodge RV — parked in a junkyard. The results showed that the iPhone and Apple Watch only detected partial collisions… Apple said this was due to the junkyard test conditions failing to provide enough “signal” to trigger the feature each time.
