According to Sina Technology, EU Industry Minister Thierry Breton met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Texas on Monday. , the two agreed on EU digital media regulation before Musk completed his acquisition of Twitter.
The meeting comes just weeks after Musk, the world’s richest man, agreed to buy Twitter for $44 billion. Breton posted a video on Twitter in which the duo explained the EU’s Digital Services Act to Musk.
The pair did not go into great detail about the new bill. The Digital Services Act provides for hefty fines if businesses do not control illegal content.
Last month, Musk struck a deal with Twitter and pledged to boost “free speech” by cracking down on spam bots and reducing moderation, revitalizing the social media platform and expanding its user base. But the billionaire’s remarks drew a rebuttal from Breton, who said Twitter must comply with new EU rules known as the Digital Services Act and deal with online content that violates the rules.
