This is not the case that Weilai has just held a press conference to enter Germany in Berlin, using the method of leasing to start the German landing, and show its muscles in the hometown of car giants.

The founder of Weilai said that the technical preparation and strategic planning have been made, and that it is to move forward to “become a global brand”. Weilai will establish a local Weilai center to provide users with suitable products.

But at present, in Germany, the products provided by Weilai are not directly selling cars, but by leasing.

Earlier, Li Bin said at the press conference that after research, it was found that there are opportunities in the German corporate car market. Weilai’s method of only renting and not selling is the most suitable.

Germany is the place where the global automobile was invented, and it is also the hometown of traditional tyrants. Li Bin has 100% respect for German car companies.

He said that the sales of German car companies are currently 20 times that of Weilai, and he has learned a lot from these giants.

But Weilai is not without advantages.

NIO’s advantage is its youth (laughs), and its products are built for the future. For example, the latest flagship model ET7 is equipped with multi-sensors such as lidar and high-definition cameras, giving a different driving and cockpit experience.

In addition, Weilai is also a user-oriented experience, providing products and services based on user needs, such as battery replacement solutions, and subscription services for smart driving.

Li Bin emphasized that NIO is not just a car company. NIO has established a car owner community in China and plans to build one in Germany.

So how do you evaluate the electric car friend Tesla? Because Li Bin said that he also has plans to enter the United States.

Compared with the respect for German fuel car companies, Li Bin’s recognition of Tesla is not 100%.

On the one hand, Li Bin believes that Tesla is worthy of respect, especially in terms of technology research and development, manufacturing efficiency and cost control.

But more importantly, Li Bin believes that Weilai is very different from Tesla.

“Tesla attaches great importance to technology and has contributed to the transformation of the auto industry from fuel to electric, but it is still under great pressure. If it does not improve its products and services, it will soon be eliminated from the market.”

Li Bin emphasized that Weilai is a user-oriented enterprise, and technology is very important to Weilai, but it will pay more attention to users.

Weilai CEO was also asked how to evaluate Tesla CEO Musk, he made an analogy:

I will communicate directly with users instead of tweets and announcements.

“Obviously I’m the better one.”

Li Bin also said that although NIO is not yet a profitable company, because it spends resources on basic platform construction, it will be much better than Tesla taking 16 years to make a profit.

As for when to enter Tesla’s home base in the United States, Li Bin’s timetable is the end of 2025.

However, the United States has issued the “Inflation Reduction Act”, which is not conducive to the production and entry of foreign automakers. Weilai may wait and see further.

Li Bin also talked about more goals, such as being able to rank among the top 5 global car companies by 2030.

But this kind of plan also needs to rely on sub-brands. Weilai has recently released the progress of the code name ALPS (Alps), which is a legendary sub-brand: the product price is lower, and it will be launched within two years.

Weilai wants to win more markets with lower prices, larger-scale mass production and sales.

At present, the monthly delivery of Weilai hovers around 10,000 units. In the most recent September, NIO delivered 10,878 new vehicles, and in the third quarter, 31,607 new vehicles were delivered, a year-on-year increase of 29.3%, setting a new record for quarterly deliveries. So far, NIO has delivered a total of 249,504 new vehicles.

In contrast, Tesla also completed the monthly delivery of 83,000 units in the Chinese market alone in September. Also in the third quarter of 2022, Tesla produced more than 365,000 vehicles globally and delivered more than 343,000 vehicles.
