At present, vehicle companies such as BMW, Toyota, Ford, and Volkswagen, travel service providers such as Uber and Lyft, and SAIC Group’s overseas car networking platform are all deployed on Amazon Cloud Technology.
Games are similar to the automotive industry. Amazon cloud technology has a greater advantage under the tide of Chinese game companies going overseas. Game companies are an important customer group that major cloud manufacturers compete for. However, due to the huge consumption of cloud resources, game companies also have pain points in migrating to the cloud. Liang Yan, general manager of the Digital Native Division of Amazon Cloud Technology China, said that many large-scale games currently have tens of millions of concurrent users participating in the world, which puts forward higher and higher requirements for platforms and services. In addition, game companies also expect to achieve optimal IT cost and performance, and try to strip the burden of infrastructure management as much as possible.
Zhang Wenyi also mentioned that under the cloud computing architecture, the computing power resources are almost unlimited, which can help enterprises with large computing power requirements to promote their business, such as chip design companies, can help enterprises cope with the uncertain peak computing power demand of EDA (Electronic Design Automation), Shorten the tape-out cycle to ensure the success rate of tape-out. The global infrastructure coverage and resources allow chip design companies to efficiently and safely achieve inter-regional team design collaboration and improve design efficiency.
Similar to the emerging “metaverse” applications, such applications have higher requirements for graphics rendering on the GPU. Zhang Wenyi said that Amazon Cloud Technology has reached a cooperation with NVIDIA to provide additional cloud computing resource support for NVIDIA’s start-up ecosystem.
As the global cloud computing overlord, Amazon Cloud Technology has the largest share in the world and has accumulated a lot, but it still lags behind local manufacturers in China.
According to market research firm IDC, in China’s public cloud IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) market, Alibaba will lead with a 37.8% share in the second half of 2021, followed by Huawei Cloud with 11.4% and Tencent Cloud with 10.9%. Amazon Cloud Technology came in fifth with 6.4%.
In the highly competitive Chinese cloud computing market, there is still room for cloud vendors with overseas backgrounds such as Amazon Cloud Technology. According to the report “Cloud China, Outlook 2025” released by McKinsey at the end of August, 30% of the surveyed enterprises are open to globalized cloud service providers, which means that by 2025, the potential cloud computing market of globalized cloud service providers will increase. The total scale can reach 30 billion to 70 billion US dollars. The report predicts that the size of the potential public cloud market that multinational cloud service providers can actually tap in China is comparable to the German market. As the fifth largest market in the world, Germany’s public cloud market is worth $25 billion.
