Microsoft profits fall

Microsoft reported its latest quarterly earnings report (Q1 2023), and in the three months to September, the company’s revenue rose 11% from a year earlier to $50.1 billion, while net profit fell 14% to $17.6 billion . It was Microsoft’s biggest quarterly net profit drop in more than two years and its weakest revenue growth in more than five years. Microsoft said Windows operating system sales fell 15% in the quarter. A large percentage of PCs run on Windows, and PC sales have declined this year after a surge early in the pandemic. Revenue from Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform and other cloud services rose 35% in the quarter, although growth has slowed over the past year. Microsoft expects further downturns in business in the future.
