We talk about the low cost of using electric cars, which is based on the environment with home charging piles. If you use Tesla to overcharge, not counting parking fees, the electricity cost per kilometer can reach more than 30 cents per kilometer. Electricity bills can be controlled at 5 cents. However, home charging piles need to have fixed parking spaces, apply for electricity meters from the power grid, and need proof that the property allows construction. These rigid conditions also discourage some potential car owners.
In addition to fixed home charging piles, there are also portable chargers, that is, on-board chargers can be used as energy supplement solutions for new energy vehicles. The on-board charger can be used with a home socket, supports its own cable from home to outdoor charging, and does not require an independent meter. It is more friendly to companies with sockets, self-built houses in rural areas, and low-rise residential buildings.
This article selects four on-board chargers, covering several different directions of brand, design features, and power support, to compare product designs and specific functions in detail, hoping to answer questions about the choice of on-board chargers.
On-Cable Control and Protection Device (IC-CDP)
In fact, I have analyzed the on-board charging product many times. It is essentially a connection device from the power supply to the motor of the new energy vehicle. In other words, it is a power cord. The conversion of electric energy into battery power is completed inside the new energy vehicle. For the consumption of on-board charging products, the first thing to focus on is whether it is equipped with an on-cable control and protection device, abbreviated as IC-CDP.
In the national standard GB/T 18487.1-2015 “Electric Vehicle Conductive Charging System Part 1: General Requirements”, the on-board charger that connects the electric vehicle and the AC power grid with a cable is called a mode 1 product; adding IC- CDP’s on-board charger products are called Mode 2 products. The former can charge the car, and the price is around 200 yuan depending on the length of the cable, but the mode 1 product lacks protection and control functions, and it is cheap but the anti-risk ability is basically 0. The latter mode 2 is the core choice of most car owners. Various differentiated functions can be realized through the control box. The original car chargers of Tesla and BYD are called car-regulated products, and they are all mode 2 car chargers.
For our private car owners, charging safety is the top priority, and ease of use can also bring a better experience, so Mode 2 on-board charging is the core choice.
Four on-board chargers
At present, the on-board charging products on the market are mostly anchored to Tesla, and they are provided for a large number of Tesla owners who are not equipped with charging equipment in the original factory. There are also many brands that have made a lot of thoughtful designs for Tesla.
The on-board chargers I compare here are Tesla on-board chargers, Puno 16A portable round light color screen charger, Bull Zhilian APP Bluetooth D2-A16C, and Puno 16/32A dual-purpose portable on-board chargers.
Tesla’s on-board charging price is the highest, because it supports 32A, and the price of 2600 was sold out in the past, and now it has risen to 2950, which is always the core option for many car owners, and can be transformed into a home 7KW charging pile.
Proud 16A portable round light color screen charger is a specially customized product for Tesla. It was launched in a few years and supports Tesla to open the cover. The domestic manufacturer of charging equipment has been producing foreign trade products since 2013. As everyone knows, Bull is a traditional household electrical device brand for many years. In recent years, it has just entered the new energy charging equipment industry.
