Science Web Guide 2.0 Era

introduction

Given that domestic censorship has become increasingly strict in recent years, scientific surfing should become an essential skill for everyone. This article will introduce how I scientifically surf the Internet and what tools I use.

Why use science online

The purpose of surfing the Internet scientifically is to access censored websites, such as Google, YouTube, Twitter, Telegram, Discord, etc. These websites cannot be accessed in China, and they need to be accessed scientifically.

Wechat censorship is becoming more and more strict now. In group chats, only you can see your sensitive text and pictures, and other group members cannot receive the messages. It is really disgusting, so I suggest everyone use Telegram.

YouTube is also a very good and free resource platform, and it is the website I use the most besides Google.

How to surf the Internet scientifically

In the past, our scientific way of surfing the Internet was to use VPN, but it was troublesome. VPN was globally connected by default. Later, with Shadowsocks, it changed our scientific way of surfing the Internet. Thanks to the author of Shadowsocks.

principle

Shadowsocks is an open source proxy software that allows you to surf the Internet scientifically. You need a server, then install Shadowsocks on the server, then install the Shadowsocks client on your computer, then fill in the server’s IP address, port number, and password on the client, and you can surf the Internet scientifically.

1.0 era

This is the Internet access method in the 1.0 era. I also bought the server of the bricklayer and built Shadowsocks myself, but later found that the server of the bricklayer is too slow, and the IP is often blocked. After the IP is blocked, I can only spend money to change the IP. So I didn’t renew after it expired.

2.0 era

Later, someone developed Clash, which is a proxy software that can subscribe to a large number of Shadowsocks nodes in batches through a URL, and then you can select the nodes you want in Clash, so that you can surf the Internet scientifically. In this way, if a single node is blocked, you can choose other nodes without affecting your use. I would like to call it the 2.0 era.

Having more nodes is one advantage, and another advantage is that we can set rules, for example, to automatically block the IP/domain name of advertisements, so that your network can be more secure, etc., and the playability is very high.

Services and Tools

Server (airport)

In the 1.0 era, you can build it yourself, and the cost is low, but if you use the 2.0 method, it is not suitable for building it yourself. It is better to buy other third-party services. The 1.0 method is cheap to build by yourself, but it is unstable. The 2.0 method is a bit more costly to buy third-party services, but it is stable.

The third-party services I’m currently using are:

  • Panda Network Accelerator : I have used it for a year, and there are many nodes, such as Turkey, Argentina, and India, so it is convenient to use other services for carpooling. Register for free experience for 1 day. If you don’t watch or rarely watch YouTube, it is recommended that you choose the “IPLC Private Line 50G Experience Package-VIP3” 13/month package (50G traffic/month), and it is strongly recommended to choose the IPLC series package.

  • Yiyuan Airport : Really 1/month, super cheap, the disadvantage is that there are not many nodes, but the speed is still acceptable.

What needs to be declared is: any “airport” has the risk of running away, so when we buy it, we can choose to pay monthly to reduce our own risks.

I do not recommend the scientific Internet service that develops apps by myself. I prefer the way that the service is separated from the client, which allows us to choose the client freely instead of being limited to a certain app.

iOS side

It is a little troublesome to use the Science Internet on the iOS side. The preferred apps are not in the domestic app store, so you need an Apple ID in the US region, and then download these apps in the App Store in the US region.

Registering an Apple ID in the US region is actually free. If you find it troublesome, you can buy it with money. It is recommended to buy it at Little Rocket .

It is not recommended to use an Apple ID that you do not know, as it is risky. Reference: [2022] Five minutes to register for an Apple ID in the US region, step-by-step tutorial, stable and durable!

After we log in to the Apple ID in the US region in the App Store, we can download the apps we need. The apps I am currently using are:

  • Stash : The app I am currently using has powerful functions and is not expensive. It is recommended.
  • Shadowrocket : small rocket, cheap, the sales vertical is the first, and it is still updated. I use it as a backup app.

Of course, these two apps are charged, and then it involves payment issues. It is a bit troublesome to pay with the US Apple ID, so I suggest that you buy these two apps by purchasing redemption codes. Here I searched two websites on the Internet for your convenience:

⚠ Disclaimer: I have no relationship with the above two websites, and you bear the risk yourself. I just found two cheaper sites through Google.

I used to buy the redemption code on Taobao, but recently I went to Taobao to look it up and found that the stores were all off the shelves, and I couldn’t find any results for these keywords.

Mac side

Only clashX is recommended here, open source and free. This is what I’m currently using as well.

Of course, as mentioned earlier, Stash also has a Mac version, but the price is not cheap, and it feels unnecessary. ClashX works well enough.

Windows side

Clash for Windows is recommended here, open source and free.

PS: I don’t have a Windows computer, so I didn’t use it either.

Android side

ClashForAndroid is recommended here, open source and free.

PS: I don’t have an Android phone, so I didn’t use it either.

Summarize

Recently, I found that more and more people around me started to use scientific Internet, and many people from non-Internet industries started to use it. I think this trend is good, because there are many good things in this world, we should check them out.

At the same time, the domestic Internet is becoming more and more strict with self-censorship. Last week, I sent a message using Telegram to a minority, but they deleted it. In fact, I searched for Telegram before posting, and I saw search results. I just posted it, and I can understand it being deleted, but I am still disappointed by the domestic Internet environment.

So I share what I know with you, to help you better use the scientific Internet and enjoy freedom.
