The EU confirms the deadline for the unified use of the USB-C interface: December 28, 2024

IT House reported on December 8 that on October 24 this year, the European Council approved the European Parliament’s new universal charger regulations and finalized the legislative process, which means that by the end of 2024, the USB-C interface will become the Mandatory for a range of electronic devices such as tablets and earphones, users no longer need to buy a different charger every time they buy a new mobile phone or similar device, all of which can be charged by the same charger.

Today, this mandatory regulation was officially published in the Official Journal of the European Union. According to the previous regulations, this new regulation will come into force in 20 days. At that time, each EU member state will have up to 24 months to apply it as a national law. , which is to become a mandatory standard for all EU member states on December 28, 2024.

(Member States) shall apply these measures from 28 December 2024 for classes or categories of radio equipment referred to in points 1.1 to 1.12 of Part I of Annex Ia and from 28 April 2026 for Part 1.13 of Annex Ia Part I These measures apply to the class or classes of radio equipment referred to in this point.

• Points 1.1 to 1.12 refer to devices such as tablets, digital cameras, headsets, and handheld video game consoles, effective December 28, 2024;

• Point 1.13 refers to laptops, effective April 28, 2026.

TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman both said that Apple is testing a version of the iPhone with a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port.
