This article is a selection of the content of the Xiongyan Xiongyu email newsletter membership plan . If you are also a newcomer in the industry, maybe there will be a little inspiration; if not, you might as well share it with the newcomers in the industry around you~

Regarding writing, I once read such a passage and thought it made sense: When it comes to writing, look at impulse in the short term, return in the medium term, and level in the long term.

After 6 years of study and research in bioinformatics, he entered the biomedical industry and engaged in tumor NGS related work for a year and a half. Although I try my best to learn and enrich my knowledge system, it is still an extremely long process, and the learning process has no end in sight.

If you want to stick to it for a long time, you need to have some more specific plans.

After reviewing and summarizing my learning process in the past one and a half years, and sorting out the questionnaires of readers participating in the membership plan, the update content in the next year will mainly focus on the following five modules.

The following content is not only an update plan report, but also a little reference for newcomers in the tumor NGS industry to build a knowledge system, and share it with you.

Learn about various types of cancer through clinical guidelines

For doctors, official clinical diagnosis and treatment guidelines such as NCCN, ESMO, and CSCO are important references for practicing medicine; for those who study or engage in related professions, these guidelines are good reading manuals for building a basic knowledge framework .

When working on projects, make it a habit to look through the latest clinical guidelines. From it, you can quickly understand the clinical issues you care about, the progress in actual clinical application scenarios, and follow the clinical studies and references cited in the guideline to have a basic understanding of the relevant content. In addition, the development history can be seen through the revision notes.

Therefore, I will work with you to understand the current status of clinical diagnosis and treatment of various cancers through the NCCN guidelines. More guidelines and learning methods and ideas will be exchanged in follow-up communications.

Subject-based literature integration and interpretation

Paying attention to and understanding the latest research progress is required for my current work, and it is my own strong personal interest. I believe you are the same, as long as you enter a medical-related field, continuous learning is essential. For example, the so-called “continuing education” sessions are indispensable at various conferences every year.

From personal experience, if you carefully read and study about 10 high-scoring/classic papers on a subdivided topic (such as an important gene or biomarker), and do a good job of horizontal and vertical analogy studies, you can form an understanding of this subdivision topic. Basic understanding of sub-topics.

Therefore, I will work with you to learn the following subdivided topics in the following four main aspects through the integrated interpretation of 3-5 literatures each time:

  • Research progress of important cancer driver genes
  • Research progress of important biomarkers
  • Progress in clinical trials of important clinical drugs
  • Research progress on important basic issues of tumor biology

In addition to focusing on genes with strong specificity for different cancer types such as lung cancer EGFR, driver genes will also focus on Tissue-Agnostic genes such as RET.

For biomarkers, we will expand from micro to macro scales (gene mutations to gene sets to genomic features), where genomic features include ctDNA, TMB, ITH, HRD and neoantigens, etc., which are the most concerned at present. In addition to learning clinical applications, it is also necessary to understand the process from their proposal to clinical practice and then to writing guidelines.

In addition to clinical care, we should also pay attention to various key basic biological issues related to tumors. For these contents, we will learn and communicate one by one according to the latest version of Cancer Hallmarks.

Top companies/products for precise tumor therapy at home and abroad

When it comes to precision medicine for tumors, one of the most effective ways to understand the industry is to pay attention to what the leading companies and startups at home and abroad have done, are doing and plan to do.

I have roughly sorted out the following companies, and you are welcome to improve and supplement with me (each email can be directly replied).

Domestic tumor NGS detection related companies

Burning Rock Biotech, Genetron Health, Geneplus, 3D Medicines, OrigiMed, Genecast, YuceBio, Haplox, GenomiCare, Singlera Genomics, GenomiCare, ChosenMed, Genetron Health

Foreign tumor NGS detection related companies

Foundation Medicine, GRAIL, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Myriad Genetics, Natera, Inivata, AnchorDx, Exact Sciences Corporation, Freenome ,Guardant Health ,Thrive Earlier Detection, Veracyte, Invitae ,Oncocyte

Domestic innovative pharmaceutical companies

Hengrui Pharmaceuticals, Betta Pharmaceuticals, Suzhou Alphamab Co, Adagene, CStone Pharmaceuticals, Legend Biotech, Zai Lab, Henlius Biotech, Junshi Biosciences, Hutchison MediPharma, Innovent Biologics, BeiGene

Foreign pharmaceutical companies

Abbvie, Pfizer, Novartis, Roche, Bristol Myers Squibb, Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp, Sanofi, AstraZeneca, Takeda, Merck & Co, Daiichi Sankyo, Glaxo Smith Kline, Blueprint Medicines

In the follow-up, I will sort out the product lines and drug R&D pipelines of these top/innovative companies one by one. This part of the content feels suitable for early-stage workers and student readers who are willing to enter this industry and are about to graduate.

Well-known institutions/hospitals for precise tumor treatment at home and abroad

It is analogous to how workers pay attention to leading companies in the industry. As a scientific researcher, we can learn about the latest academic research directions and hotspots, and we can also pay attention to well-known institutions and hospitals with strong scientific research strength at home and abroad in the research field.

Such as MSKCC, Dana-Farber and well-known domestic universities and major affiliated hospitals. Through the hospital, you can find a big cow PI in the field. What if you have the opportunity to do a postdoctorate and study for a doctorate?

Introduction to my personal learning methods and tools

In addition to the above four modules related to the field of biomedicine and tumors, freely fill in the topics of interest in the questionnaire, and many of them point to the introduction of learning and working methods, habits and tools.

If it is a general need, it needs to be responded to. Therefore, in addition to specific information and knowledge sharing, I will also introduce in detail some of my personal learning methods and tools, such as methods and tools for reading literature, etc., for your reference and criticism.
