Henriëtte Geertruida Knip was a flower painter from the North of the Netherlands, who was born into an artistic family – both her father and her brother were painters. Henriette Giltruida became a successful painter, spending summers in Haarlem painting flowers from various flower companies and winters in Amsterdam teaching ladies how to paint.
As a woman artist, she was able to support both her family (her father and brother were blind) and herself, which might have been difficult for women in the early 19th century. She never married and died in Haarlem. Her work is sometimes confused with that of her niece Henriette Rohner-Knip, whose work often included animals (… cats, to be precise).
PS Be sure to see Henriette Rohner-Knip’s kittens ; they are so cute! <3
