The Twitter Blue subscription service relaunched on Monday for $8/month on the web and $11/month through its iOS app. The higher prices on iOS help offset the 15% to 30% cut Apple takes on subscription fees paid through the App Store, which Twitter boss Elon Musk has criticized as exorbitant.
Users who subscribe to Twitter Blue will have a blue check mark next to their name if they verify their phone number and their account is reviewed. Other additions include the ability to edit tweets and upload higher-resolution 1080p videos, as well as a reader mode for easy reading of tweet threads. Users who change their username, display name, or profile photo will temporarily lose the blue checkmark until their account is reviewed again.
Twitter suspended its Twitter Blue service last month after accounts with the blue checkmark, which previously required only a payment of $8, were used to impersonate businesses, celebrities and other high-profile individuals.
Twitter also announced that it will begin to replace the previous “Official” label for brands and other high-profile accounts. Specifically, Twitter will provide a gold check mark for businesses and a gray check mark for government and multilateral accounts. flags, these will start rolling out later this week.
An image shared by Twitter also shows that users who subscribe to Twitter Blue will also see 50% fewer ads than non-Twitter Blue users, and will be able to post longer videos, with priority in the reply section, mention section and search section Tweets, and early access to other new features over time, all of which are listed as “Coming Soon.”
Twitter did not say when accounts that were previously verified without a Twitter Blue subscription would lose their blue check mark.
