This fabric cover is called “buro yarn”. Traditionally, in Japan, gifts are placed in boxes on trays with furosha hanging from them. Choosing the furosha that suits the occasion is an important part of the gift-giving ceremony. The richness of the decoration indicates the wealth of the gift giver, while the quality of the design is a testament to his or her taste and sensibility. This satin furosha features an image of a crane embroidered with silk and metallic thread. These birds are a symbol of longevity as they are believed to live 1000 years.
