Pinwan News, December 19th, Twitter announced that it will prohibit users from promoting other social media on its platform for free. Violators will be required to delete tweets, and serious cases will have their accounts banned. Additionally, the company will remove accounts that attempt to circumvent the rules by posting screenshots of other accounts. Platforms such as Telegram, TikTok, YouTube, and Weibo are still not affected by Twitter’s ban, and Twitter’s motivation for deliberately banning these platforms’ network links is unclear.

“We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will no longer allow certain social media platforms to promote for free on Twitter,” Twitter said in a statement on Sunday.

The company continued: “We will remove accounts created solely to promote other social platforms, as well as content that contains links or usernames to Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, and Post. However, we Cross-posting content from any social media platform is still permitted, and failure to mention a social media platform link or username above does not violate the new policy.”

Few other social media companies have similar requirements for sharing links to other accounts. Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted Sunday that the company’s new policy “doesn’t make sense.”
