Hello everyone, I am Lei Jiayin, and I am also Zhou Bingkun, the “old lump” in the TV series “The World”. Thank you for your love for “Human World”, and thank you very much for your love of Lao Piada.
The process of shaping the role of “Zhou Bingkun” was relatively smooth. I am from the Northeast, and Zhou Bingkun was born almost at the same age as my father. I have prototypes of many characters in the play since I was a child. Sometimes while acting, I wonder what it would be like if this scene took place on this side of the real world, where my father’s generation sat together in a tavern, drinking and chatting.
Of course, there are difficulties in playing this role, because the time span of this play is very long, and I have to act from the age of 20 to 60. Youth, middle age, and old age, the difficulty of performance in these three stages is different. When I first started acting, I always joked with Song Jia: “Sister, what’s the matter? I’m 40 years old and stop here. I don’t look like I’m young, and I don’t look like I’m old.”
How can I bring the change of this character to life and make the audience believe that this needs to be pondered by me. So I tried to find a solution from the details of the characters. Bingkun always wore a Lei Feng hat when he was young, so I chose one size smaller according to my own size. The Lei Feng hat, which was drooping at both ends, stood straight up, and the image of “Old Pimple” suddenly became very playful, with a sense of cynical comedy. I wore the Lei Feng hat like this when I was a child, and the production crew thought it would work, and everyone was very happy.
In addition to looking for the character’s status from the details, I will also think about the character’s role logic outside the text. When I was reading the script, I had a question: Zhou Bingkun could faint at the scene of shooting criminals at the beginning, he should be a cowardly character, but in the era of planned economy, he resigned as soon as he said he would resign, and his relationship with Zheng Juan Completely unafraid of worldliness. I thought, what kind of existence is he? With this in mind, I grasped Zhou Bingkun’s way of “responsing to all changes with the same” approach to life, and dealt with many details in this way.
The chemical reaction with the opponent during the performance will also add a lot of color to the characters. In fact, Song Jia and I have very few words in the play, but we are very close old friends, and we often have some impromptu plots that make fun of each other. For example, Song Jia said: “Why have you gained weight recently?” “Have you cried all the way, and your face is swollen from crying?” These seemingly useless jokes actually provide the audience with a lot of information and dimensions, which must be associated with When the siblings were young, they must have had nothing to do with each other. There is also the plot of “wearing my sister’s red wool pants” that everyone resonates with. It was also improvised by Teacher Sarina and I when we were matching words, and the final effect was really good.
In fact, the creation of a character must first fit the style of the play, and judge one’s own performance scale from the color tone of the play. When creating characters, based on people, there will be more means of acting.
