In the 1980s and 1990s, dozens of companies were involved in the development of graphics cards, but most of them were eliminated from the competition. By 2010, only AMD and Nvidia were left with competitive graphics products. However, in the past few years, with the rapid growth of the demand for AI, HPC and graphics processing, the number of global graphics card manufacturers has increased significantly. Among them, the number of Chinese companies is impressive. According to Jon Peddie Research, there are 18 companies developing and producing GPUs. Two companies develop GPU-integrated SoCs for smartphones and laptops, six GPU IP suppliers, and 11 GPU developers focused on PC and data center GPUs, including AMD, Intel, and Nvidia. This list does not include Biren Technology and Tianshu Zhixin, two GPU developers focused on AI and HPC.
