[Global Times Special Correspondent Xin Bin] On the 5th local time, the world’s largest technology exhibition, the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), opened in Las Vegas, USA. According to a report by Nihon Keizai Shimbun on the 5th, the American Consumer Technology Association, the organizer of CES, said that due to the rebound after the epidemic this year, exhibitors and groups will increase by 40% compared with 2022, reaching about 3,200. However, the scale of exhibitors is still not as good as in 2020 (about 4,400) before the impact of the epidemic.
South Korea’s “Asia Daily” reported on the 5th that this CES exhibition was held offline for the first time after the pandemic. Exhibitors came from more than 170 countries (regions), an increase of nearly 1,000 from last year, of which more than 1,000 companies are the first time Exhibitors. This year’s CES exhibition covers an area of 186,000 square meters, equivalent to the size of 26 football fields. The Consumer Technology Association of America predicts that this year’s CES will have more than 100,000 participants, double the 45,000 people attracted by last year’s online exhibition.
The slogan of this year’s CES exhibition is “immersed in it”, and the key words include sustainability, digital health, metaverse, etc. 323 of the world’s top 500 companies will participate in the exhibition, focusing on displaying various cutting-edge technologies and innovative concepts. Global technology giants Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, etc. will all showcase their innovative achievements. South Korea’s “Asia Daily” stated that the Korea Information and Communication Technology Industry Association stated that 550 Korean companies will participate in the CES exhibition, second only to the United States (1,484). In 2020, there were more than 1,200 Chinese companies participating in the exhibition, but since then it has shrunk significantly due to the impact of Sino-US trade friction and the new crown pneumonia epidemic. In 2021, only 204 Chinese companies will participate in the exhibition.
According to Nikkei Asia, this will be the first time in three years that Chinese participants can travel to the United States with relative ease. According to the official list of CES exhibitors, 485 Chinese companies will participate this year, a rebound from the number in 2021. Chinese brands such as TCL, Hisense, and Konka are among the exhibitors, though many will be exhibiting through their U.S. subsidiaries. A director of a Chinese company participating in the exhibition believes: “Many Chinese companies see the urgency of strengthening their global influence because they see huge market demand abroad.” According to the analysis, it is expected that Asian companies, including Chinese companies, will have a strong performance. The show is also an opportunity for exhibitors to shake off the gloom following last year’s general downturn in the global technology industry.
