New Zealand PM Ardern announces she will resign

On January 19 local time, New Zealand Prime Minister Ardern announced that he would resign by February 7. Many foreign media described this as “shocking” news. At the Labor Party’s annual general meeting on January 19, Ardern said she had hoped to find the energy and courage to continue to play the role of prime minister this summer, “but I have not been able to do that”. Ardern also said that he has thought about his future, “This is the most fulfilling five and a half years of my life.” In 2017, 37-year-old Ardern was elected Prime Minister of New Zealand, becoming the youngest female head of government in the world at the time. | Related reading (Global Times)
