During the Chinese New Year, the happiest thing is always the children. In my memory, the taste of the year when I was a child was red lanterns all over the sky, a bottle of Jianlibao (exposing my age) , chicken, duck, fish and steaming hot pot on a big round table (yes, southerners do not eat dumplings during the New Year) , it is After eating the New Year’s Eve dinner, sitting around the brazier, eating sesame candies and watching the Spring Festival Gala… At that time, there was no air-conditioning, and there was no heating in the south, and I wore thick cotton jackets in the house in winter, but the year in my memory was full of warmth, the kind of warmth of the old and the young, neat and lively.
It’s a pity that in that era, cameras were also a rarity, and it took a few years to take a family portrait. Those pictures about the New Year can only gradually fade in my mind, and I can’t see them clearly every year. When I grew up, I bid farewell to my relatives and moved to Germany, and the feeling of Chinese New Year became even weaker. After having a baby, I will take a set of family portraits on a fixed date every year to commemorate the children growing up, myself getting old, and the years that the family has walked together year after year.
Today I would like to share with you the family portraits I have taken over the years. In the new year, I hope everyone will be harmonious and beautiful, and the whole family will be happy!
In the first two years after my eldest brother was born, I was in Germany, and my family portraits were taken on Christmas, because every time we go to the countryside, we will set up a Christmas tree at home and put gifts under the tree, which is especially suitable for taking pictures.

When it comes to the Spring Festival, although we will decorate our home with the few decorations brought from China, most of the time, we just put our children in New Year’s greetings clothes and take single photos.
During the Spring Festival in 2016 and 2017, there was only a solo photo of my brother at that time
In my brother’s third Spring Festival, not only did I have a younger brother in my family, but also a traditional cultural picture book “New Year’s Eve” which came to me after a few months of drifting at sea.
This is a very interesting picture book. It introduces the traditional customs of the Chinese New Year (mainly the customs in the north) based on the chronological order of the Chinese New Year. There are many small surprises hidden in each page, which children especially like. But what surprised me the most was that one of the pages reserved a large area for family portraits, and readers could post their family portrait photos taken during the Chinese New Year.
Overseas, I always hope to create as much traditional cultural atmosphere as possible for children, so that even if they are born and raised in a distant country, they can still have an emotional connection with their parents’ hometown.
During the Spring Festival of that year, I took my baby to participate in the Chinese New Year activities held by the Chinese as usual. I took him to write blessings, paste Spring Festival couplets, make handicrafts, and make dumplings. La”.

In the Spring Festival of 2018, we took the first family portrait of four people. In the Spring Festival of 2019, my younger brother has already started going to kindergarten to mix with the society. In addition to adapting to the new environment, new teachers, and new friends, we must also adapt to the rich and active virus library in the kindergarten.
On the New Year’s Eve, my younger brother came back from kindergarten and made a fuss all night, and didn’t eat the New Year’s Eve dinner. On the first day of the Lunar New Year, my younger brother put on a red-hot New Year’s greetings suit against his feverish body temperature——I hugged my feverish brother and took a family portrait.
During the Spring Festival of 2018 and 2019, the family of four all wore the New Year’s greeting clothes from China.
The Spring Festival of 2020 was spent in the “Come on Wuhan” full of screens. Although thousands of rivers and mountains are separated, every day is broken by various worrying and touching news. That was the only Spring Festival that I didn’t watch the Spring Festival Gala since I grew up.
I was not in the mood to celebrate, but still kept this photo-taking ceremony that is of great significance to us. The moment of the brightest smile during the entire Spring Festival was left to the camera.
Spring Festival in 2020 and 2021,
In order to take pictures, I also bought a lot of props for the Spring Festival
On the first day of the new year in 2021, we received a Spring Festival health package from the embassy. In addition to epidemic prevention items, there was also a set of big Spring Festival couplets and blessing characters.
The two little boys in the family also understand more and more that the Spring Festival is connected with China. It is the place where parents were born and raised, and where their parents live.
In the Spring Festival of 2021, I received love from the motherland
In the Spring Festival of 2022, the epidemic is still raging, and Germany is experiencing the first wave of Omicron peaks, with a daily increase of 200,000. But my eldest brother finally finished the vaccination of the newly approved children’s version of the new crown vaccine on the 29th of the Lunar New Year, and my anxiety was relieved by more than half.
Although we still can’t go back, we have slowly resumed small-scale gatherings, making dumplings with friends to watch the Spring Festival Gala, giving lucky money to the children, and wishing a safe and healthy year!
2022 Chinese New Year Family Portrait
This year, I will still solemnly take a family portrait of our family. You should also take a picture, leaving memories of reunion every year and memories of children growing up year after year.
I wish you all a happy New Year’s Eve and a happy new year!
