Amazon’s (97.25, 3.57, 3.81%) (AMZN.US) cloud computing unit plans to invest $35 billion by 2040 to build data center parks across the US state of Virginia, with multiple locations under consideration.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) said the new investment will create 1,000 jobs. In 2021, AWS said that from 2011 to 2020, it had invested $35 billion in data centers located in northern Virginia, where it employs 3,500 full-time employees.
It is reported that the US state of Virginia has been working on a “giant data center incentive plan”, which is awaiting the approval of the state legislature. Amazon will be eligible for the new program, which includes extending some tax exemptions for up to 15 years.
In addition, Amazon.com Inc.’s cloud computing unit will also be eligible to receive a $140 million grant for site and infrastructure improvements, workforce development and other project-related expenses. (Sina Finance)
