Smartphone shipments in 2022 to be lowest in nearly a decade

According to IDC data, global smartphone shipments in the fourth quarter of 2022 fell 18.3% year-on-year to 300.3 million units, and annual shipments fell 11.3% year-on-year to 1.21 billion units, the lowest since 2013. The fourth quarter is the holiday season, and smartphone shipments usually rise, but last year’s situation showed that the market’s demand for smartphones was weakening, and manufacturers faced higher inventories, forcing them to cut shipments. The data shows that Apple’s shipments in the fourth quarter ranked first, with shipments of 72.3 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 14.9%, and a market share of 24.1%; Samsung’s shipments were 58.2 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 15.6%, with a market share of 19.4%; Xiaomi Shipments were 33.2 million units, down 26.3% year-on-year, with a market share of 11.0%; OPPO shipped 25.3 million units, down 15.9% year-on-year, with a market share of 8.4%; vivo shipped 22.9 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 18.9%, with a market share of 11.0%. 7.6%. Samsung’s annual shipments of 260.9 million units surpassed Apple’s 226.4 million units.
