SMIC says demand for mobile phone chips has fallen sharply

Zhao Haijun, CEO of SMIC, said that in 2022, global smartphone sales will decrease by at least 200 million units, mainly affecting Chinese mobile phone brands. Zhao Haijun said that the war and the new crown blockade have greatly reduced demand for consumer electronics and home appliances, affecting chip orders in these areas. Zhao Haijun said that he does not see any signs of ending at present. The demand for consumer electronics has plummeted like a stone, and the inventory of some customers can be maintained for five months. This situation has not affected SMIC’s production, the factory is still running at 100% capacity, and the demand for power management chips and microcontrollers for green energy, electric vehicles and industrial applications is still very strong.
