A vacation woken up by construction noise

Recently, because of the May Day holiday, things at work have become a little more. I get up at either 5:40 or 6:40 every morning, and sleep for a while in the office at noon against a chair or lying on my desk.

I managed to get through the May Day holiday, but I was woken up by the construction noise from the building complex across the road on the first morning. Because I had other things to do later, I didn’t sleep at all.

At around 6:00 this morning, construction started on the opposite side again. The excavator was replaced by the hammer and the clang clang clang clang woke me up. The rapid and continuous noise made me unable to continue to sleep. I used the mobile phone software (non-professional equipment) I tested the noise and it was around 55 decibels. So at 7:14, I called the 12369 environmental protection hotline. After listening to my feedback, the other party told them that they would deal with the matter.

But until about 8:50, the sound of the hammer breaking rocks still did not stop, and I felt that my nerves were about to collapse. I called this number again, and the other party replied that according to their procedures, it will take fifteen working days to process this matter. The thought of being on vacation for five days and not being able to deal with it meant I would probably be woken up by construction noise at 6 or 7am every morning, devastated.

With the attitude of giving it a try, I called the local Bureau of Ecology and Environment at 8:59. After hearing my appeal, the other party told me that they would arrange staff to check.

At around 9:21, the continuous clanging sound finally stopped, and it was only about 20 minutes before the phone was hung up. The excavator on the opposite side replaced the breaker with a bucket, finally calmed down, and felt instantly at ease. a lot.

When standing in front of the window, I paid infinite respect to the staff of the local Bureau of Ecology and Environment, praised their efficiency and spirit of serving the people, and even wished to send a pennant there.

At 8:39, I received a call from a mobile phone number, who said it was from the Environmental Protection Bureau, and asked me where the location I mentioned was. After I informed them, I said truthfully: “Now there is no such noise.”

After hanging up the phone and looking out of the window, I saw a car with “environmental monitoring” on its body was parked on the road, and it was starting to leave. At that moment, I realized that the disappearance of the construction noise on the opposite side was not the result of their communication, but most likely because the crushing process on the opposite side had ended.

After reacting, I began to feel lost. It lasted from six o’clock in the morning to nine o’clock in the morning. The noise that bothered me didn’t disappear because of my feedback. What I did seemed to be useless. On the other hand, while worrying about whether this situation will happen again tomorrow, I also comfort myself that “they have finished this process, and there will be no tomorrow.”

Reminiscent of last summer, during the large-scale land reclamation on the opposite side, the windows were not dared to be opened all summer. Even if the windows were opened at night, layers of dust could be seen on the ground next to the window sill the next morning. During that period of time, every time I cleaned and mopped the floor, the water was earthy red when I washed the mop. At that time, I didn’t have this kind of awareness, so I made suggestions to the functional department and asked the construction on the opposite side to control the dust.

Now I have done it, but it seems that I have not done anything. I don’t know if there will be noise tomorrow, and suddenly I feel like I am powerless to change.
