After writing:
After I almost finished writing, Jianying released an update again. When I was about to open the screenshots of the software to add some pictures, I found that more than half of the bugs mentioned earlier had been solved, such as adding transitions to affect the duration and deleting content would cause problems later. The transition disappears. These issues have been fixed in version updates.
But because of this, do I think Clipping is a good software worthy of being used in the professional field? Maybe not, it still has a big gap with professional software. As a self-proclaimed professional software, it still maintains a closed ecology, does not provide XML file export, and does not have project file output. There is a gap between this and professional software. It may allow more editing enthusiasts to start learning editing and open up their own territory in their own market segments
Due to work reasons, I have to use Clipping to make some simple short videos. The editing software I have used for a long time is Da Vinci and Pr. If you want to use some good modern transitions, you need to install additional plug-ins or materials Packages are not only relatively cumbersome to use, but also have a large performance overhead. In this respect, clipping has great advantages. It has a lot of useful video effects and transitions. For less rigorous video work, the effect can be used by dragging in with one click, and the computer performance requirements are not high. , There will be no lag when using it on a computer with ordinary configuration, and it is more convenient to use.
But as I used it, I found that behind the convenience is the software’s inability to adapt to fine-grained operations. Numerous big or small problems are affecting my work, which is contrary to the standard operating habits.
Track hierarchy confusion
Clipping is very messy in terms of track hierarchy. In general professional software, the video on the timeline is like a layer, and the upper layer suppresses the lower layer. However, clipping separates “the track level of the video displayed on the timeline” and “the actual layer of the video in the frame”. The picture displayed as the second layer in the track may be the third or fourth layer in the actual video frame. Such a design is tantamount to complicating a simple matter.
What is even more unacceptable is that the change of the “video track” will also change the actual “video level”, which mainly occurs when the video clip interacts with the main track.
For example, in the above scene, four photos on the timeline appear simultaneously, and are superimposed in four layers on the screen. And when I directly drag one layer down, the hierarchical relationship of the fourth layer has changed.
When such a problem occurs, in fact, it is still at the software design level of Editing that we hope that the video can only be placed on the first track as much as possible, that is, on the main track. But such a counter-intuitive operation is still very unfriendly.
This problem should never have existed. I think, maybe it’s because Jianying was only a single-track software at the beginning, and later in the process of trying to advance to the professional field, there was a difference between the underlying code of the software and the actual goal, resulting in such a distorted result.
Frequent bugs in the video track
The video track is a place that must be touched during the editing process. However, even if you try to avoid the above-mentioned multi-track problem and edit with only one track, you will encounter many problems.
The only reason I use Clipping is because there are a lot of modern effects and transitions in it, the easiest case is to just put a lot of pictures in it and add transitions to them all.
Of course, I will also have the need to frequently replace, increase or decrease materials. This is a very normal operation, and for insurance, the pictures are placed on the main track, but this will also trigger bugs 100% of the time: after deleting a material , the subsequent transitions will disappear inexplicably. As shown below
In addition, there is another huge problem: adding some “transitions” will affect the length of the video. This is really fatal. When making stuck video, slight changes in the position of clips on the timeline will affect the effect.
Occasionally in Da Vinci, it will be necessary to cut the length of the clip, but it will give a very obvious hint. I think this is the more correct solution, because in professional production, the length of the effect is far more important than the natural excessive many.
Oh yes, other software pops up a prompt because the length of the clip is not enough, but the cut length in the clip is purely caused by the transition itself, regardless of whether the length is enough or not, it will be cut.
Export and project management
In terms of engineering and sharing, clipping is completely missing. In order to facilitate the transmission of timeline editing information among professional software, most of them support the import and export of XML files. XML files contain general editing data. For file sharing between the same software, Pr has a prproj format file, and Da Vinci has a drp format file, both of which support the storage and sharing of editing information. This is true for general professional software.
But Jianying follows the trend of the Internet and chooses another way: it does not provide any export function, and only supports uploading drafts (projects) to the workspace. During this process, both parties must have clipping accounts, and the video data must be uploaded to the cloud. This feeling of needing to be deeply bound to the account and software makes me very uncomfortable. I just want to use one tool, but am deeply bound.
In addition, the export function of the software itself cannot be exported in segments, only the entire timeline can be selected for export. This is also an intolerable shortcoming. This means that I cannot create a
