I went on a business trip to New York last week and participated in QCon NYC 2023. This is my first time participating in QCon. I learned a lot of technology and met some new friends. I finally came back after a few days of random wandering. I have a cold, but this weekend I’m going to drive to the beach again… the weekend is busier than the middle of the week.
In this issue, I plan to talk about two things, namely:
- frame of wealth
- How Open Source Makes Money
frame of wealth
I have been subscribing to Neckar Substack . Some time ago he posted an article A Simple Framework for Wealth , which highly condensed the framework for accumulating wealth/making money. You can regard this framework as a methodology, or as a life cycle of wealth. In short, there are four stages:
- Creation of economic value Create economic value
- Capture / control of that value Get/keep the value
- How much leverage is being applied
- Period of time during which the capital compounds
He also made an analogy with a company. Using this framework to measure a company is:
- Does it create value for customers?
- Can it hold on to that value (does it have pricing power and a moat, can it maintain a high return on capital)?
- How much room does it have to grow, how much capital can it mobilize, and what capital structure?
- How long can it last…
