Hello everyone, today I am very happy to announce that the Read it later (Read it later) tool that has been developed for a while, that is, the favorites tool-MarkMark, is now officially open to the public!

foreword

I used to be a user of several “Read it later” tools, but after using them for a while, I gradually stopped using them for various reasons. Instead, in 2017, I made a simple one based on Web + iOS Favorite tool and have used it for a long time. If you have been following me for a while, you may remember that I did a presentation and a small survey at the end of 2019, when I had the idea to open up this favorite tool, not just for my own use. But later, because I was busy with other products, I temporarily put down this idea. Until the end of October last year, I picked up this project and decided to productize it.

The process of making MarkMark has twists and turns. First of all, the relationship between personal status and energy. On the one hand, I have experienced the new crown virus infection and Chinese New Year in my life; on the other hand, several old products are still being actively maintained, and I cannot separate my energy; To what extent must it be released, even because I used SwiftUI to do it at the beginning, but it couldn’t achieve the effect I wanted, so I pushed it to start again… For various reasons, it was originally planned to be released in early 2023, but the ticket has been skipping until now. .

Having said so much, it is because at a certain moment, I realized that it is impossible for a product to be perfect as soon as it is launched (even it will never be perfect), it can only be gradually improved in the process of making and using it . So I decided to adopt a new model, first launch it in the form of Public Beta, let interested users use it first, and improve it while using it until 1.0 is officially released.

Introduction to MarkMark

MarkMark is a web favorites tool developed for macOS and iOS. Its name comes from what people say “Let me mark first”. It aims to use it to complete the Mark operation of various web content for subsequent review and reading .

Its development philosophy is:

  • Out of the box: users do not need to register and various cumbersome settings, and can immediately start collecting and other operations after opening it;
  • Privacy priority: only use iCloud associated with the Apple ID account as cloud storage, no one can access the content stored by the user, no need to worry about security and privacy;
  • Native experience: Based on the principle of minimal design and the most native interaction, make a macOS and iOS native app what it should be.

At present, MarkMark has completed the common basic functions, and also has some special functions, such as:

  • Support nested folders + nested tags to manage content;
  • Support offline storage of web content, don’t worry about deletion or inaccessibility after offline;
  • Support Open Quickly (Command+Shift+O) to quickly find content;

As the basic functions are completed, more other functions will be added in the future.

Introduction to Public Beta and How to Public Beta

At present, I define MarkMark as the Public Beta of version 0.1. It will lack some functions, but the foundation is already very solid, especially the macOS version. You can actively give feedback on requirements and missing functions, and I will check and fill in gaps based on your feedback.

In response to the issues that you may be concerned about, here I will make a summary.

At present, MarkMark is in the state of free public beta, anyone can participate, just register for the public beta via email, and you will receive the download link of the macOS version and the link of iOS TestFlight. The public beta process will last approximately 1 to 3 months.

In addition, all users who have completed the public beta will have the right to purchase at a discount when the product is officially released. So how do you count as “completion of the public beta”? There is only one requirement here, that is, before the official release of 1.0, it is enough to submit a public beta experience questionnaire. In addition, if you encounter any problems or ideas during the public beta, you can give feedback by email at any time, and you don’t need to wait for the questionnaire to summarize them.

There is another question here, if you have participated in the public beta, but do not plan to purchase in the future, what should you do if you want to export the data at this time? You can also rest assured here that the data export function will be a priority function of MarkMark to ensure that the data saved in MarkMark can be 100% exported for your future use in other places.

Ok, let’s write this for now. If you have other questions, please leave a message here and I will add them. Now click the link below to participate in the public beta!

Hope this software can start your new experience!
