During the holidays, I watched two movies with my children, “Chang’an 30,000 Miles” and “The Little Mermaid”. After watching them, I thought they were both good.

“Thirty Thousand Miles from Chang’an”

Before reading “Thirty Thousand Miles from Chang’an”, I thought it was about 300 Tang poems. After reading it, I realized that it was about the story of Gao Shi and Li Bai. The other poets were all guest stars and had no sense of presence. The strangest thing is that at the critical moment when the enemy is approaching, the coach is there leisurely recalling the good times.

In the movie, Gao Shi is old-fashioned and persistent, while Li Bai is conceited and unreliable. When Li Bai is down and out, he always looks for Gao Shi, and when Gao Shi looks for Li Bai, he is always left out. How can two people with very different personalities come together?

The movie is generally pretty good, especially in the last half hour, where the pace picks up significantly. I personally don’t know much about Gao Shi. Apart from knowing that he is the author of “Farewell to Dong Da”, I only learned after watching the movie that this poet is very good. He is not only good at writing poems, but also very good at fighting. This movie is about historical events, not about Tang poetry. Children who are too young may not understand it.

“The Little Mermaid”

The live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” has been called “Clownfish” because the Little Mermaid was played by a “black man”. The reviews of the movie were not very high, so I didn’t have high expectations before watching it.

I didn’t expect it to be very good after watching it, especially children. The dark-skinned mermaid doesn’t affect the viewing at all. After watching it, I thought she was the Little Mermaid.

The live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” follows the plot of the animated version. When watching the movie, the children were afraid to follow Andersen’s original work and kept saying that the Little Mermaid didn’t want to die.
