Widespread media reports on Monday said that satellite images of Russian military installations on Google Maps had a resolution of 0.5 meters. Civilian high-resolution satellite photos are very valuable to open source intelligence analysts, although the 0.5-meter resolution may be much lower than the military reconnaissance satellites in use by the U.S. military. A Ukrainian military account believes that Google has stopped blurring satellite images of sensitive Russian sites. But a Google spokesperson later denied that claim , saying they had not altered the blurriness of the Russian satellite imagery. That is to say, these satellite photos were like this before, without special processing. Google has only obfuscated a few sensitive locations.
