Apple has been forced to delay the launch of its long-rumored AR/VR headset until next year due to cooling issues related to the computing power of its processors, The New York Times reported on June 5, citing people familiar with the matter.
Apple has reportedly hired an engineer, Mike Rockwell, from Dolby Technologies and commissioned him to lead the AR/VR efforts. Two people familiar with the project said his early efforts to develop AR products were hampered by a lack of computing power. Continued challenges with battery power have forced Apple to delay its launch until next year, people familiar with the matter said.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in January that the headset could be delayed until 2023 due to development issues related to performance and cooling.
Ming-Chi Kuo also said on May 31 that it will take some time before Apple’s AR/MR headsets enter mass production. He believes that Apple will not release AR/MR headsets and realityOS systems at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), and may in the future. Hold a special conference for it.
According to The New York Times, Apple’s board of directors received a product demonstration of the headset, indicating that despite development issues, the headset is nearing completion. Apple is unlikely to unveil the headset during WWDC22, the report said.
