According to The Paper, recently, Nike Running Club (“NRC”), a running app owned by Nike, issued a notice to users of suspension of service, stating that due to business adjustments, the NRC APP will stop serving in mainland China from July 8, 2022. The NRC APP also stated in the notification that it will provide data export services for runners in need from now on, and Garmin’s sports equipment will stop synchronizing data with the NRC APP from now on.
When users open Nike Run Club (NRC), a running record app owned by Nike, a reminder will pop up saying, “The NRC APP will stop operating in your area on July 8th… From now on, we will provide services for runners in need. Provide data export services”.
Nike Run Club is an app owned by Nike, and the Nike version of Apple Watch also has this app built-in. In addition to NRC, Nike has also launched Nike Training Club, which provides free physical training courses and other content.
It is unclear whether Nike’s decision will affect Apple Watch Nike sales in China.
The history of Nike Run Club can be traced back to the Nike+ kit launched for iPod on May 20, 2006. This kit can store information such as exercise time, distance, speed, calories, etc. It is a product of cooperation between Nike and Apple. In 2008 This product was further integrated into the iPod touch 2, and as of April 2013, Nike+ had 18 million global users.
