At the general meeting on December 15, 2022, Ma Huateng talked about corruption within Tencent. On January 10, Tencent published a list of as many as 48 internal violations via email. The employees and managers on the list were all punished to varying degrees for alleged corruption or violation of the “Tencent high-voltage line”.
On January 14, a document obtained by the power plant showed that Tencent notified the recent anti-corruption situation in an email sent to all employees on January 10. A total of 48 people (excluding previously notified cases) were arrested Illegal acts such as job occupation, illegal misappropriation of funds, commercial bribery, or improper internal management have violated the “Tencent High Line” and are punished.
In this document, the power plant found that those suspected of corruption and violations of high-voltage lines include grassroots employees, cadres such as team leaders, and middle-level cadres such as the deputy general manager of the business department. Insiders claim that compared with previous notifications, the number of people notified this time is the largest among previous punishments. As of press time, Tencent has not commented on this.
In this document, Tencent is mainly divided into four parts for notification.
The first part is to report the progress and update of the previous two judicial transfer cases. The persons involved are from Tencent Cloud and Smart Industry Business Group (hereinafter referred to as CSIG) and Platform and Content Business Group (hereinafter referred to as PCG). In the third quarter and first quarter of 2022, the high-voltage line will be notified. In the end, the two persons involved were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment by the court, and the external bribery personnel were also punished with a suspended fixed-term imprisonment.
In the second part, Tencent notified four judicial transfer cases. Among them, two PCG employees have been transferred to the public security organs for suspicion of misappropriating funds and accepting commercial bribes, and external bribers have also been arrested. A CSIG employee was transferred to the public security organ for suspicion of occupational occupation. An employee of the Enterprise Development Group (hereinafter referred to as CDG) was transferred to the public security organ for accepting commercial bribes.
In the third part, Tencent reported 25 incidents of violating the “Tencent high-voltage line”, which is also the part with the most people involved. Among them, seven CSIG employees and two outsourcers were fired for violating the “Tencent high-voltage line”; a total of 11 employees and two outsourcers from the Interactive Entertainment Business Group (hereinafter referred to as IEG), which is also the business group with the largest number of people involved; PCG has five people, CDG has three people, and Tencent Skylark, Tengyu and other subsidiaries have a total of four people, all of whom were dismissed for violating the “Tencent high-voltage line”.
In the fourth part, Tencent notified five “serious violations” incidents. The punishments for relevant personnel included internal demerits, the company issued a real-name notice of criticism, failed the current performance appraisal and could not be promoted in the current period. A total of six employees from CSIG, IEG, WXG (WeChat business group) and one outsourcer from IEG were punished.
Tencent will report to all employees every quarter about violations of the “Tencent high-voltage line” and suspected corruption. However, within Tencent, violations of high-voltage lines and corruption have been repeatedly prohibited. According to the interface report, at the internal staff meeting on December 15, 2022, Tencent CEO Ma Huateng revealed that Tencent has increased the intensity of internal audit and control this year, and as a result, a large number of internal corruption problems were found, and some middle-level cadres were also involved. He even described the seriousness of the internal corruption problem as “scares people to death after watching it” and “shocking”.
Ma Huateng also said that Tencent has also introduced digital capabilities into anti-fraud. Since then, all Tencent’s reimbursement and external supplier data have been collected, and internal audit and internal control can find most of the low-level problems. Continue to build this capacity in 2023.
