Apple Cash (老版 Discover Debit)被强制转换为新版(VISA Debit)

foreword

Today is 2022-06-07, which happens to be the day of the launch of Apple WWDC 2022. Today, I suddenly found that Apple Cash has been closed, and finally verified as a forced conversion.

  • AppleCash (older version of Discover Debit) in iPhone/Apple Watch is forcibly closed and converted to new VISA Debit version when reopened
  • AppleCash in ApplePay for iPad currently has no effect
  • After the iPhone is replaced with a new version in AppleCash in the AppStore, both the iPad and the iPhone are the new version of VISA
  • The history records are exchanged, and the balance should also be exchanged

Apple Cash is turned off

Re-enable Apple Cash

The whole process is automatic, no need to fill in information and identity verification

The history record remains unchanged, the card organization network has changed to VISA debit card, and the device card number has changed. However, some large-picture pages of Apple Pay still have no VISA logo, which is consistent with the old version.

Advantages of VISA over Discover

Not sure if the card supports transactions outside the US, non-USD transactions (probably so)

In the old version of Discover, due to the discovery card organization, in Stripe and other payment platforms, to use ApplePay, you can only use Stripe for merchants in the United States (even if the USD transaction in the UK is not supported)

At the same time, there are also many platforms in the United States that do not support Discover, let alone internationally. This VISA version can solve this problem to a certain extent.

For example, the Apple Pay top-up of Revolut US, and the Discover card organization will show that the app is not accepted. This time the VISA version can at least give you a choice (but it was rejected by Decline after trying it)

However, it is not clear whether the operation such as Discover Cashback Debit has any effect on this.

combat effect

  1. Stripe US: Used to be and should be
  2. Stripe UK: Shopping, successful payment
  3. Revolut US: service class, can be displayed in the optional card but rejected, may be related to the merchant
  4. WISE: In theory, it can be tested, but I won’t try it for fear of killing WISE
  5. ApplePayTopup platforms such as N26/OZan: theoretically possible to test, but I don’t
  6. PayPal/CashAPP/GooglePay/Skrill/Zelle/Alipay/WeChatPay/Meituan: ApplePay is not supported
