Apple expands support for self-repair program with new desktop Macs and Studio Displays

IT House News on December 21, Apple today expanded its self-service repair program, adding support for iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio and Studio Display equipped with M1 series chips, these models now have corresponding parts, tools and Maintenance manual, users can complete the maintenance by themselves.

IT Home understands that these desktop Mac models and Studio Display components are currently limited to the United States, although the program has been expanded to Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Taiwan earlier this month. Kits for Mac desktops and Studio Displays can be rented from Apple’s self-repair store for $49 each and must be returned after seven days.

Apple’s self-repair program was first launched in the United States in April, providing users with genuine Apple parts, tools and manuals to complete self-service repairs on iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and third-generation iPhone SE models. The program was added in August to include MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with M1-series chips.

Apple says the program is for individuals “experienced with the complexities of repairing electronic devices.” For the “vast majority” of users, Apple says going to a “professional repairer” like an Apple retail store is a better option.
