The Fitness app on the iPhone has long been available as an activity-tracking tool for those who own an Apple Watch, but in iOS 16, Apple wants to free up activity-tracking options for the app even without an Apple Watch.

With iOS 16, users can use the iPhone motion sensor to track your activity. iPhone can keep tabs on steps, distance, and third-party workouts to estimate calories burned.

Even without an Apple Watch, users can set daily activity goals and use their iPhones to track progress toward them. The updated fitness app is great for users who don’t have an Apple Watch or other type of activity tracker and want to be more active.

The Fitness app looks almost identical to the one available to Apple Watch owners, but it doesn’t include the Fitness+ tab because the feature is Apple Watch-only, and there’s no standing and exercise rings.
