Earlier, Apple announced that it would shut down iCloud’s free feature “My Photo Stream” (My Photo Stream) in July this year. This service, which has been launched for more than ten years, is about to be abandoned. Recently, some users discovered that users have been unable to upload any new pictures for the My Photo Stream function.
According to the announcement issued by Apple, from June 26, new photos will stop uploading from the device to “My Photo Stream”, and photos uploaded to this service before that date will be kept in iCloud for 30 days (since uploaded from date). In other words, no later than July 26, iCloud will not retain any pictures uploaded through the service, and the service will be officially closed.
Launched by Steve Jobs in 2011 as part of iCloud, the “My Photo Stream” service automatically uploads photos and videos from one device to another without manual syncing. This feature doesn’t count against the free 5GB of iCloud storage, but it’s limited to 1,000 files and doesn’t support full-resolution syncing.
Apple later launched iCloud Photo Library (now called iCloud Photos) as a full-featured photo and video sync service. iCloud Photos requires a paid subscription to iCloud to use more than the free 5GB iCloud storage space, the package starts from $0.99 per month, and the optional 50GB to 2TB ranges.
While shutting down my photo stream service, Apple recommends that users switch to iCloud Photos service, and gives the specific operation process:
On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
1. Open the photo and click the album;
2. Click My Photo Stream > Select;
3. Click the photo you want to save, then click the Share button > Save Image.
on Mac
1. Open the photo application, and then open the My Photo Stream album;
2. Select any photos you want to save but are not currently in your photo library;
3. Drag them from the My Photo Stream album to your library.
