Apple reportedly agrees to TSMC’s chip price hike

TSMC plans to increase the price of 8-inch wafers by 6% and 12-inch wafers by 3% from January 2023. Taiwan’s “Economic Daily” previously reported that TSMC’s largest customer, Apple, rejected the price increase proposal, but now it is reported that Apple has agreed to the price increase . TSMC makes A-series chips for Apple’s iPhones and iPads, and M-series chips for Macs. It plans to start producing 3-nanometer chips for Apple by the end of 2022, possibly the M2 Pro chips for Macs, and the A17 Bionic chip used in the iPhone 15 Pro, which will be launched next year, is also expected to be manufactured using the 3-nanometer process.
