The launch of the “Home” section on Apple’s official website in China seems to be a signal that Apple will develop smart homes in China. In fact, Apple’s HomeKit was born as early as 2014. It can’t be said that it is very early, but it is not too late. After all, after the death of Jobs, Apple is very cautious in every step. In 2015, HomeKit ushered in the first batch of smart hardware, and the number was pitifully small. It wasn’t until 2016 that the Home app appeared in iOS 10 to manage household products in a unified way. However, it is a pity that Apple’s smart home is always on the edge of the industry, and it seems that it has not been done. At least in China.
In contrast, domestic Xiaomi and Huawei are already rapidly advancing the implementation of smart homes. There are also more than a thousand ecological brands in cooperation. There are only a handful of external equipment brands that Apple cooperates with, and the category of “home” will not appear on Apple’s official website until 2021. However, it is not known whether it is an internal promotion problem of Apple, or the certification process is too strict. There are still not many third-party products today.
As a fruit fan, I also wanted to build an Apple smart home, but I inquired about it. If I want to use HomePod to realize the voice control of the whole house, I need to buy a few more. Otherwise, it can only be controlled through the Siri or Home app on the iPhone or iPad. This is clearly not user friendly.
Overall, Apple’s smart home is far from the ecological construction of local companies such as Xiaomi and Huawei. Apple’s own excellent mobile ecosystem is wasted. The functions of Xiaomi, the price of Apple, will you buy it? Of course, there will definitely be senior fruit fans who recharge their faith.
